It’s Song Lyric Sunday! This week is about cities, countries, counties and states! So many choices right? I chose Moonlight Over Paris since this is one of my favorites.
The first video is the version of Peter Mayer who co-wrote the song with James Mayer and Roger Guth for Vanessa Williams’ The Sweetest Days album in 1994. Although Vanessa didn’t release it as a single, Peter Mayer then included it in his album Spare Tire Orchestra in 2001.
There is another known rendition of this song, the one of Paolo Santos’, a Filipino musician who had become very popular in the Philippines during the early 2000s for the so-called “second hand songs.” He did the acoustic version and has included the song in his Live Sessions album in 2003 and eventually, in his The Anthology album in 2018.
Moonlight Over Paris
You say you’ve been overseas
I say over where
You say just a holiday
My Alsatian heir
I say I’ve been working late, working overtime
Haven’t seen that sun since sixty-nine
Does the moonlight shine on Paris
After the sun goes down
If the London Bridge is falling
Will anybody hear a sound
If you follow the sunset will it ever end
Does the moonlight shine on Paris
Oh and how can you just walk away
Is it something that I said
I see only black and white
You see green and red
You believe in the miracles
Water into wine
I’ll believe it when it makes the New York Times
Does the moonlight shine on Paris
After the sun goes down
If the London Bridge is falling
Will anybody hear a sound
If you follow the sunset will it ever end
Does the moonlight shine on Paris
Have you heard of this song before?
Great song

Really nice choice Janis. I have always liked Vanessa Williams. I have never been to Paris, but I have seen the London Bridge.

Thanks Jim… I wish to be able to see the London Bridge… the farthest I’ve gone is Heathrow Airport… 😀
I’ve been to Paris though… and indeed, the moonlight shines brighter on Paris ❤

Heathrow is like a city, I always get confused there.

Great song, though I do prefer Peter’s version more as I feel like its more of an acoustic guitar song.
