This week’s Song Lyric Sunday by Jim Adams is about songs that start with either letter M or letter A. This week’s choice for me is Sophie Hawkin’s As I Lay Me Down.
I love this song. It felt like Sophie knew how I was feeling when I first heard it… Like it’s being played for me… I was so young that time and probably experiencing my first puppy love.
As I Lay Me Down
Sophie B. Hawkins
It felt like Springtime on this February morning
In a courtyard birds were singing your praise
I’m still recalling things you said to make me feel
All right I carry them with me today now
As I lay me down to sleep this I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I’m far away I’ll whisper your name
Into the sky, and I will wake up happy
I wonder why
I feel so high, though I am not above the sorrow
Heavy-hearted till you call my name and it sounds like church bells
Or the whistle of a train on a Summer evening
I want to meet you barefoot, barely breathing
As I lay me down to sleep this I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I’m far away I’ll whisper your name
Into the sky, and I will wake up happy
As I lay me down to sleep this I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I’m far away I’ll whisper your name
Into the sky, and I will wake up happy It’s not too near for me, like a flower I need the rain
Thought it’s not clear to me every season has its change
And I will see you when the sun comes out again
As I lay me down to sleep this I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I’m far away I’ll whisper your name
Into the sky, and I will wake up happy
Oh, only as I lay me down to sleep this I pray
That you will hold me dear
Though I’m far away I’ll whisper your name
Into the sky, and I will wake up happy
I wonder why
When the sun comes out again
When the sun comes out again
When the sun comes out again
When the sun comes out
Oh, when the sun comes out again
When the sun comes out again
Ooh, ooh, comes out, comes out
Oh, wake up happy
‘Cause I pray
Comes out, here we go again
Ooh, here we go again, baby
Good choice

Relatable songs are nice. They are like poetry, but with music!

Thanks for dropping by… it’s an old song but didn’t become a hit… it became known only for the movies/ tv series it got attached to.. but it’s really nice β€

Thanks Lisa. It’s really good right? There’s something about this song that makes me happy and sad at the same time π I think it’s about missing the 90s π

It is really good! So many songs make me happy and sad depending on the time and what was going on at that moment. I miss the 90’s because my kids were little. They are all grown up now and my grandkids are as old or older than my kids were then. π

I understand what you mean… it’s good to look back because it’s as if we’re transported to the old days… I know my folks love our kids… but it’s different when they were reminiscing about how we were as 90s kids… there’s so much joy β€ β€ β€
There's still lots of great days for us to look forward to β€
