I am an Adventurer

The Myers–Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is an introspective self-report questionnaire indicating differing psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions. The test attempts to assign four categories: introversion or extraversion, sensing or intuition, thinking or feeling, judging or perceiving. One letter from each category is taken to produce a four-letter test result, like “INFJ” or “ENFP”.

My sister could not accept that I am an adventurer as per my MBTI results. Since my sister is a “professional typer” — I decided to retake my MBTI test and indulge her doubt about my being an ‘artist type’ — the results came in reflecting the same typing. I think she finds me too boring to be an adventurer.

I change during the course of a day. I wake and I’m one person, and when I go to sleep I know for certain I’m somebody else.

He was also typed to be an ISFP, whether A or T, I am unsure.

So when I told my sister that I have retaken the test and that I get ISFP-T whenever I paid enough attention to the questions and answered truthfully, here’s her reply,

According to her, she can now see the possibility, since I could be like Jane from Daria (MTV animated show).

I don’t know why most people classify me differently like how the Pastor who officiated our wedding thought that my guests were my husband’s — he automatically assumed that my friends who are tattooed and pierced and Rastafarians are my husband’s friends. Like he couldn’t imagine my hanging out with them or being cool enough to be accepted by their crowd. And yes, finds my husband cool enough.

Oh well, I guess I have an innate coolness but only the cool ones get to see it.

  1. I am an adventurer too… married to a Filipina who is the polar opposite. But even exploring the nooks and crannies of someone’s spouse is an adventure and, as Helen Keller put it “life is either a daring adventure or nothing”

  2. Daria was popular in our household (our daughter in particular). I have never been a big fan of Myer Briggs – it can create angst, misunderstanding and some of the questions are not as straight forward as they seem. I prefer other models, however, it does provide a wealth of information regarding the psychology of people and their preferences. People like to put other people into boxes. It’s a problem when you don’t fit the box they have in mind for you! Always have your box cutter ready 😜

    1. I have tried DISC and boy that was accurate! LOL.

You are right about being put in a box like how my sister would detest my being an artist type… especially when I was typed alongside Bob Dylan. She wants me to screenshot all my answers to ascertain the truth behind the results… 😀 Because she’s boxed me into a type already, and she feels I wasn’t adventurous enough…

I have trolled in Reddit the other day about people’s typing and they are quite serious about it… it’s one of the most entertaining sub/rs I have joined since.

I love your daughter! I have never stopped watching Daria — my wallpaper is Daria… my profile pic in FB was Daria… I feel I am too old for it but I guess there are things we do not really outgrow 😀
