YESTERDAY was a Saturday… but my husband and I made a pact that we will utilize each day to get our son caught up with the second grade curriculum, I mean instead of cramming later. Since Brook and I have been studying together for almost 2 weeks now, I feel that he is getting the hang of it and is actually enjoying these educational activities with me.
Our lesson yesterday is from Edukasyon Sa Pagpapakatao, a subject very similar to Values Education which will later be replaced with GMRC (Good Manners and Right Conduct). We used the Filipino language for the day’s lessons like how it’s being done in our local municipality (public schools). I still don’t know how it’s done in PH based private schools because Brook’s former school here in Riyadh used the English language, albeit, still following the Philippine curriculum, but for the sake of practicing our his Filipino skills, why not, right? I mean until such time that I officially received the new school’s instructions… he’s got to learn good manners either way.
We watched a lesson from YouTube and we sang a Filipino song that I am sure I’ve heard before, but for some reason, I forgot about.
Oh how good it is to have such videos available online! ‘Cause if not!?!! I would have to act it out. My singing and dancing skills are going to be challenged yet again. Amazingly, Brook was cooperative and totally participated. He sang along and danced/acted according to the instructions mentioned in the song. It was awesome!
I was also able to make him write a paragraph in Filipino about his talents and special skills which apparently included playing the Legend of Zelda and Roblox. I allowed him to write those since he really is a gifted gamer! I am proud he’s got such skills.
We did an activity in which he is supposed to draw himself with his special skills. He drew an image of him while drawing, playing video games & guess what? SINGING! That’s something I knew he’d truly excel at plus he’s got an extraordinary memory, imagine, knowing word for word, the lyrics of the songs by these millennial singers I haven’t even heard about.
I am just happy because despite the weirdness of my life at the moment, Brook remains to be my ultimate source of JOY! He is God’s gift indeed!

Looks like it is going well! I admire your dedication to practicing Filipino and teaching it to Brook. It is very important, and some families in The Ph actually forget about it.

Thank you… You’re absolutely right & what sucks more is that you’d hear them say it like it’s something to be proud of… I mean, it’s always good to know how to speak a language fluently but it’s not acceptable that you’ve got nothing on your supposed native tongue. I used to be like that, thinking it wasn’t as important, but then I got older and realized that I was wrong.

I am totally with you. In a way, it is sad how some people seem to have no appreciation for our own. The more I travel, the more I prefer Filipino. Oh, and thank you for visiting us!

You’re a cool mom! 😍 I love that you’re teaching him our language and he likes it. Some don’t bother teaching their kids because they are already abroad. Also, playing video games have so many benefits! It enhances our memory, problem-solving skills, concentration, and a lot more. 💖

Exactly, those are the perks of gaming! And now, they are learning so many new things I didn’t know back when Mario only had 3 lives 😀 😀 😀 Thanks… I try to make him learn the language especially, that being his lowest mark for the last 2 yrs… I am not an expert too, but I try to learn it well, I speak Filipino of course, but, my balarila is challenged.
It’s only I who take the time to improve his Filipino skills, I don’t know why! LOL

Oh that’s a cool age, I don’t have a brother hence my husband and son are mere substitutes 🤣 I play a lot of Splatoon on Switch but that’s it. Even Mario games don’t appeal to me any longer. I sometimes play Pokken Tournament & Smash with them but I have an expiration date.
Splatoon is a good game to get addicted to haha. Bagay sa ates & future titas of manila 😂😂😂

Hahaha. True… that’s why it’s so hard to master our own language because we know of grammar yes… but balarila is something so strange to us.
How did I know of it then?! I was in public school when I was a kid… then I saw my cousins who were studying in a private school, I noticed that my Filipino book says Filipino and theirs say Balarila. I was like wth is Balarila so I asked around… it stuck with me all the years 🤣
