Nobuta Wo Produce

The story was set in a High School. It revolved around the lives of the three major characters namely Shuju, Akira and Nobuko.

Shuji Kiritani (Kazuya Kamenashi) is a popular high school boy who is close to Mariko Uehara (Erika Toda), the most popular girl in school whom he does not actually love. They were just paired because of their fame. Mariko likes him so much though. Akira Kusano (Tomohisa Yamashita) is Shuji’s classmate, who does not really have any friends – something that is attributed to the fact that he is stupid or pretends to be, or acts like one. One day, a very shy girl, Nobuko Kotani (Maki Horikita) transferred to their school and is instantly picked on by a group of girls for her shyness. There’s always a resident mean girl in every high school.

Shuji and Akira for some reason find it a good idea to team up and decided to “produce” Nobuko and make her popular. They nicknamed her “Nobuta”. Kiritani, though later on had to cope with the fading fame because people knew about Uehara and their class knew that he did not help his classmate when he got beaten up. Although that happened, both Kusano and Kotani remained loyal to him so he gets over the loss fame. It was also revealed that Aoi, one of Kotani’s friends from the beginning (apart from the two boys) was the mysterious enemy who had been messing with Kotani.

At the latter part, Kiritani had to move out of the city to be with his family and Kusano, since he’s super rich managed to follow Kiritani immediately and studied outside Tokyo joining Kiritani. Kotani on the other hand was left in Tokyo, but had managed to gain self-esteem, now able to smile and had great friends!

You may notice:

  • Kiritani is played by the same guy you’d see in Sapuri and Gokusen 2
  • Uehura is played by the same girl in Death Note, Liar Game and that irritating Umi in Hana Yori Dango
  • Kusano is played by PChan or Yamapi and you must have also seen him in Kurosagi and Proposal Daisakusen
  • Kotani is played by the same actress in Hana Kimi. Isn’t she cute?
